Following their 8-0 thrashing pre-season against Darkside, confidence must have been low for a Dynamo side facing their conquerors in the league for real. Allied to this, never is an animal more dangerous than when wounded and following Darkside’s disappointing result against the French Darkside should have been well up for it.

Unfortunately this didn’t turn out to be the case. The away team began in the poorest manner that they have all season, unable to put together their patented flowing football so evident in earlier victories. The defence, according to Tanna’s half time analysis, were all marking the same man. Indeed the team were not getting stuck in generally culminating in Dynamo being awarded an uncontested penalty. Still after their two pre-season misses expectations were low. Alas this was the real Dynamo and the gift was coolly accepted. So the score remained until half time where Tanna used a few choice words to motivate the team, indicating that changes would be made after 5 minutes if no improvement was made!

After securing his reduced match fee Fletcher made an immediate impact coming on from the sidelines, where he had performed far more admirably than their “opposition on the attack so must be offside” linesman, slotting home to level the affair.

The lead was short lived however, despite the ever impressive Andy’s finger tips, Dynamo took the lead again leaving Darkside wondering what their hours of summer hard work had all been for. As the rain began to pour emotions ran high with Kingston issuing the rallying call. Who should step up but Swain the avenger to equalise immediately through the keeper’s legs. Man of the match Masuku was leading the line impressively and neat touches were creating chances.

Surely the whites would not mess up again against such obviously technically inferior opposition and indeed they didn’t. All that remained was the question of where the winner would come from. The play began with a promising throw on the right hand side. Pressure was placed on the Dynamo defence to force a corner. The ball was an in-swinger delivered to the centre of the goal approximately 5 yards out. Who should meet it but your esteemed author, rising like a phoenix to beat the keeper for another “Fletcher–Boyd combo”.

Still remained 10 minutes to defend, in the game of four seasons in one day. Luckily the defence had figured out whom they were marking with the fresh legs of Wright playing no small part. A mass brawl started by the substitute goal scorer could not detract the focus of a team who announced their return to winning ways. Phew.
