January 2006 - Surrey
Junior Cup 4th Round I turned up 10 minutes after KO fearing the worst; a team ranked approx. 45 league places above us should mean we were punching above our own weight. But no, the lads were hanging in there at 0-0, putting together attacks of their own on ocassions. On a grey day (as you can tell from the pictures!) Darkside looked like they might take this game all the way, but on half hour Hook managed to scrape a lead and shortly after, followed it with a lucky second goal, which somehow managed to scrape through Mayes hands at the near post from a shot-come-cross from Hooks winger. This blow sent the DFC team in at half time with their heads low, disappointment rife on their faces. But despite this they were play a resonable game and were flying the flag proudly for the KDFL 5th Division. The second half is bit of a blur to me now, but somehow the Venturers side managed to breach a DFC defence once more and with 10 minutes remaining all Darkside wanted was a consolation goal, to leave with a highly respectable 3-1 scoreline. Disappointingly for all, this didn't come and with the best intensions of pressing forward gaping holes were left at the back once again, and far from getting a consolation for the away team, it lead to 4 more goals for the home side, rounding off a wholly flattering score for them and an embarrassing, if belated cup exit for Darkside. Heads up for next week, the cup we really want!! Match report by: Ben |
