12 April 2008 - League The final game of the season arrived, and there was still much to play for. A Darkside win was certain to move them up a few places. A defeat would leave them worryingly in the bottom 3. Tanna had a near full strength squad, making his decisions all the more difficult for squad and starting places. He opted 4-4-2, Harris shifted to LB, Lass given his first start at RB, Austin was in at LM allowing Sadza and Masuku to lead the line. Despite being on unfamiliar ground it took little time for Darkside to find their rhythm. The Oxshott goal took a hammering, quite literally, Darkside rattled the woodwork on a number of occasions, as they laid siege to the opposition’s goal. Sadza wasted a glorious opportunity firing over after a flowing move. Oxshott failed to really get forward with much conviction Boyd and Szil holding firm, Lass was lively at RB taking lots of "dodgy" throw ins. The breakthrough did take some time; eventually Austin's ball through found a darting Mole who made no mistake firing home. The highlight for Oxshott, their manager complaining at having to change his top, which unbeknown to him was the same colour as the away teams kit. His colour blindness added to his amusement. The second half was much like the first, Darkside were denied by goal line clearances, goalkeeping saves and the woodwork on a regular basis. Ben S replaced Ian at LB; Ian happily took on linesman duties. Mayes did his best to keep involved, with a few back passes and goal kicks, the wind playing havoc with Oxshotts long ball game. Bob and Tim then came on for, Mike and Ben Mole, as Darkside looked to see the remainder of the game out. Bob tried his luck from distance. Oxshott infallibly sprung to live late on, forcing a number of corners and positive situations that they failed to capitalise. The final whistle blew, 3 more points, and a second consecutive 1-0 win. The team celebrated with a group hug in the showers, already looking forward to the new season.Match report by: Tim |
